Meet the team

At Canberra Foot and Ankle Clinic all of our podiatrists have over 6 years’ experience in private practice and have completed further training since graduating with their podiatry degree, along with having first-hand experience in high level sport. This allows our podiatrists to correctly diagnose and give personal feedback on a lot of foot and ankle issues that they themselves have also experienced.

Our team are some of the most qualified podiatrists in Canberra and strive for excellence.

Bio

Kyle has worked in NSW, VIC, QLD, TAS, and most recently the ACT. He has previously sat on the Sports Medicine Australia Tasmanian State Board/Council for 3 years, and has received $30,000 worth of scholarships allowing him to further his education and knowledge base through a large variety of courses.

Outside of podiatry Kyle has a keen interest in all things sport. He has recently stopped playing competitive level sports but during his younger years he played National Premier League (NPL) Division 1 (Soccer) whilst living and working in Hobart and had many years of Australian rules football (finishing up last year with the ANU Griffins). Throughout school he represented NSW at cross country and 800m events, while setting multiple High School records in 800m, 1500, and cross-country distances.

However, after multiple broken bones (7), 12 shoulder dislocations, half a fake tooth, and two shoulder reconstructions he now prefers watching local sport from the sideline with a cold beverage, running, skiing, and taking his Kelpie out to kick the footy rather than throwing his body around for more punishment.

Originally from Adelaide, Alex completed his high school and undergraduate Podiatry degrees in Melbourne before moving to Canberra to work under 3 x Olympic Medical Team Podiatrist Paul Fleet. Since his move, he has worked predominantly with patients with musculoskeletal pain in their feet and lower limbs, including national and international level athletes. He furthered his interest in managing musculoskeletal conditions completing a Post-Graduate Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine through the University of Otago Medical School. Alex loves helping patients of all ages and abilities, from your weekend gardener through to elite level athletes and uses his training and experience as a Rehabilitation Coach to provide comprehensive plans that get people back to doing what they love. He has a special interest in managing persistent musculoskeletal injuries and chronic conditions, receiving further training and mentorship in the science of pain and management of complex injuries. In addition to his clinical work, he develops courses on the management of lower limb injuries and pain, and provides specialised mentorship for Podiatrists in Australia, UK, Ireland and India. He is also an education partner for the Norway-based research group CauseHealth and has recently been recruited to help write academic papers on the best management for plantar heel pain (commonly known as plantar fasciitis). A previous volleyballer and martial artist, you’ll now find Alex in a gym, out running or in the cheese aisle of his local deli.

Bio

Emma obtained her degree in Podiatry at Southampton University UK where she further earned a Chancellors Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. Since graduating she has gained a wealth of experience working in a private clinic in UK specialising in general care, including high-risk patients, nail surgery and biomechanics. In more recent years Emma has expanded her scope of practice to offer verruca needling for those stubborn warts and although no treatment is 100% effective it is another potentially effective tool in the removal of warts. Emma has just moved to the Nation’s Capital to further develop her skills and complement our team of Canberra’s most highly educated podiatrists. Emma has a passion of lifelong education and continues to develop her skills of evidence-based practice with constant events, workshops and courses. This education assists Emma the skills in treatment offered to our patients from complex lower limb pathologies to managing foot and ankle pain for optimal outcomes. Emma has an interest in biomechanics and gait analysis (with further training). This interest allows her to focus on interventions such as footwear, orthotics, exercise and lifestyle modifications. Outside of Podiatry, Emma will mostly be seen outdoors and is at her happiest on the water. As a lover of camping, hiking and kayaking she is keen to embrace all that Canberra has on offer, hopefully slightly drier and warmer than she is used to. However, as her second love is food she can also be spotted in the garden and kitchen, ideally cooking what she has grown.
